We would like to warmly welcome Stephanie Born to the RF Coaching Team!
We are excited to have her start and are thankful for sharing a bit of her story below!
Some Background
I am an Assistant Professor at the University of Findlay. I teach exercise physiology, personal training/strength and conditioning, and sports nutrition courses. Once upon a time, I wanted to be a professional choreographer and dancer, but quickly fell in love with exercise physiology and realized I had questions that I wanted to find the answers. I am madly in love with human movement and physiology. The human body and mind are capable of such amazing things! My Ph.D. is in exercise metabolism because I wanted to understand the mechanisms of fat loss and nutrition’s role in exercise performance. As I said... I had questions 🙂 I like to share that I didn’t start out to become an academic. I started out like a gym rat (at the age of 15) looking for answers, and stumbled my way into academics by following the bread crumb trail.
I share my life and home with my husband, David, of 8 years, two little girls, and an ancient Husky-Malamute (she’s 14). My daughters are Ani (6) and Emma (4), and they keep me forever on my toes with their never-ending energy and wit. When I have free time, I love to read. Although reading is my only sedentary habit, and I admittedly have trouble sitting still. I worked in retail management for eleven years and loved the constant activity. I run my house a lot like I used to run my store, and I love organizational challenges and projects!
Goals With Coaching
After teaching all year, I realized I missed working with people. I love the process of getting to know people and connecting through goals and shared experiences. I wanted to find a place that combined the community that I missed with the application of the exercise science that I fell in love with so long ago, and I feel so fortunate to have found all of that and more at Renegade Fitness! The clients at Renegade inspire me as much as the coaches, and I am so excited to join the team! I look forward to growing as a coach, getting to know the clients, and being a part of their journey as they become a part of mine.
Personal Fitness
I spent 6 years running a retail store and going to graduate school. During that time, I got married and had two kids. So my first fitness goal is to reconnect to the “fit” me that still exists in the back of my head! To find a little bit of “me time” in this crazy thing called daily life, and build a habit. I love spinning, and secretly love running (not at the time of the actual running, but always before I start and after I finish). I also absolutely adore hot yoga, but seldom get the opportunity to indulge. Weight training was my first love, and it’s like any first love in that practicing it is like going home. I love the challenge, the me vs. weight, and the ultimate win of getting stronger and more capable. I never played sports, because the only competitor that ever mattered to me was me, and all of my fitness pursuits kind of reflect that!
